Welcome To

The Black Raven Codex

Welcome to the Black Raven Academy

I want to extend a warm welcome to all students to your complimentary Module 1. I’d like to share a few recommendations for how to proceed.

The entire program has been developed as a library of resources and tools, to speed up the creative process and offer a starting point we all so often lack.

The Black Raven Codex KnotWork Codebreaker

Now, In the first instance I’d recommend starting by watching the video lectures several times and get familiar with the processes I’ve demonstrated.

The Premise of the Codex Knotwork codebreaker is simple, yet I think you’ll find more time to invest playing with each knot and component. You’ll quickly appreciate the potential. Quite literally, by the time you’ve unlocked all 48 segments when you sign up for the full program, you’ll be able to create thousands of variations and patterns to adorn your work.

Take your time and play with Module 1’s six lesson segments. Challenge yourself to see how many variations you can develop while mixing, matching and blending with any other sources of Knotwork you may have found on your travels looking at historical pieces. I have developed this whole system as both a standalone AND complimentary system to work with other art.

The Black Raven Armoury Concepts

Be it the base idea for a new pouch or armour, I’ll be sharing a unique library of ideas to get those creative juices flowing.

In this Module, and when you consider sign up for the full program, the rest of the modules will deliver 24 new concepts to download (in 2 different printable format page sizes), covering different themes and styles, including Body Armours, Shoulder Armours, Helms, Bags & Pouches, Belts, Vambraces, Greaves and Quivers (I know … long list !!) but much more than concepts I’ve included with each module, my own personal thinking and guidance video covering not only how they could be used … but also the critical “practical” elements that so often get forgotten, just to help guide you as you work to turn the designs into patterns.

As with all my programs, you can re-visit both Codex and Concepts as many times as you like to get a clear idea of my thinking and methodology while working up your own ideas.

Clearly you will all be working on your own projects and while this could give rise to many hundreds of questions based on your own projects, I’d request that you endeavour to stick to questions regarding clarification of techniques rather than my opinion on just your project.

Black Raven Codex Knotwork & Conceptual Art Use & Copyrights

For the first time ever, as Purchaser of this Codex program you are able to use both the Knotwork & Conceptual designs however you want, aside of reproducing them as pieces of printed art or  digital art unless as part of an overall larger design.

Whether as Individual or Small Trader or Prospective Small Trader, you are able to create your own variations and patterns of the codex to be featured on your creations. All I respectfully ask is that you give some credit for the initial foundation of your design of the Knotwork.

For ‘concepts’ the same rules apply. You are free to take my concepts or bring them to life as they are, or with your own spin on the ideas. Again, a credit for inspiring your creation would be nice ☺
*** Should you require clarification on the term “Small Trader” please contact me in advance.

You all know how passionate I am about this craft and industry, and you’ll all know how I love to share my students work on the Black Raven Page, so please… share your creations with me.

This the beginning of a new creative journey and I’d love to see where it takes you. So, I’ve created a new Closed student group on Facebook. The group is Exclusively for those students who sign up for the full program, both to share your ideas and projects as you bring them to life, but also as a platform where I’ll be hosting occasional live stream Q&A sessions online.

Finally, as with all projects I am here to support and assist you and will do my best to reply to all questions asked. I would ask just a little patience at the speed of reply as it could take a few days.

A huge thanks again for all your support & look forward to an amazingly creative year with you all.
